Family Safety

SPG is committed to ending violence against women from migrant and refugee backgrounds by addressing structural and systemic barriers that prevent women from seeking safety, supporting enhanced evidence on the experiences and impacts of violence, and promoting service response that is specialist and culturally-, linguistically- and gender-responsive.

National framework for the prevention of dowry abuse

SPG and Harmony Alliance are partnering with the AustralAsian Centre for Human Rights and Health to support the implementation of the Fourth Action Plan of the National Plan to Reduce Violence against Women and their Children 2010-22. The program seeks to develop a national dowry abuse prevention framework underpinning community education on the issue of dowry abuse, including the drivers and the actions needed to prevent its perpetration.

Supporting men and fathers

SPG supported the implementation of the Third Action Plan of the National Plan to Reduce Violence against Women and their Children 2010-22. Fathering Across Cultures initiative supports young men and fathers from migrant and refugee backgrounds in better understanding and appreciating their current or future roles as parents and partners. The initiative facilitates men’s access to evidence-based resources and advice, and provides guidance for service providers to proactively engage with men from migrant and refugee backgrounds in this regard. Through Fathering Across Cultures—and as part of the National Men’s Health Strategy 2020-30—SPG is also promoting mental health literacy among men from migrant and refugee backgrounds, and supports them with tailored and in-language resources.
